The Stockholm International Film Festival protests against the imminent incarceration of award winning Iranian director Mohammad Rasoulof.
After Rasoulof won the main prize in Un Certain Regard at the Cannes film festival 2017 for his film A Man of Integrity, he got his passport confiscated and hasn't been able to leave the country since. In February this year he won the Golden Bear at the Berlinale for his latest film, There Is No Evil, and was unable to attend because of his travel ban. Now he has been sentenced to one year in prison due to his filmmaking.
In 2013 we invited Rasoulof and his film Manuscripts Don’t Burn to Stockholm. He could not attend the festival because of his passport being confiscated. Both Swedish and international film colleagues gathered outside the Embassy of Iran to show support.
Stockholm International Film Festival will always stand up for freedom of speech. Together with fellow film festivals we urge all to join the protest.
