Terminal Bar is a photo-driven documentary about a bar in Manhattan. It is not solely portrayed via the camera lens, but throughthe eyes of the customers as well. Throughout the years TerminalBar has been transformed from a traditional Irish working-classjoint to a trendy spot for homosexuals. Visitors and others areshown through photos taken between 1972 and 1982 by thedirector’s father, Sheldon Nadelman. The antiquated interior, dirtygrey façade, and the adjoining sidewalk with a stench of piss lendthe bar an air of a combat arena, but the warmth and the sense ofhumor are in evidence. The fates behind the photographs providea glimpse into the lives of many people and also into an aspect ofNew York’s homosexual culture in the 1970’s.
