Zazie, who used to be a charismatic rock star (played by the lead vocal of the rock band Odd-Bowz) returns to Shibaura, Tokyo's desolate waterfront district, after five years. His apartment is open house for the many and various people who want something from him: the punky members of his former band, his ex-girlfriend, new admiring women and fans. Zazie plays like a cross between a rock video and a documentary on the japanese post-punk generation.
Comment:
''Say something.''
''I have nothing to say.''
The storm is over and the calm is paralytic. What remains is the will to communication, even though the actual message has disappeared or come to be hidden. Or as Zazie says in the film: ''I've just read six good books. Not that there was anything special in them, but I enjoy drinking beer and reading.''
Go Riju's celluloid autumn landscape feels late and empty. What season it really is I do not know, but it smells of autumn, an old time has died and the wind is cold.
Post-punk - what does that mean? Can anything come after punk? Of course! But carry on?
It is beautiful and desolate in Tokyo harbor.
