Sway

Urban, hipster photographer Takeru returns to his hometown to attend his mother’s memorial. He soon finds himself as an obstacle for a romance between his ex girlfriend Chieko and his shy and pleasant brother Minoru. When the three of them visit the nearby canyons, Minoru and Chieko end up in an argument. Takeu, who has walked ahead of them, does not clearly see when Chieko fall down the rocks, resulting in her death. After Cheiko’s funeral, Minorou is arrested. With Takeru as the only witness, a question arises. Was the fall accidental or did Minoru push her? Instead of making an ordinary thriller, director Nishikawa depicts Takeru’s anxiety over the choices he has made through the ambiguity between being loyal to his brother and the want to search for the truth. Sway portrays a family in disarray, and a country clashing between the old and the new, family versus freedom and traditions against individualism.NIKITA AVERIN KRONLUND
