After his girlfriend left him, Zia (Patrick Fugit) can't go on living and decides to cut his wrists. He wakes up in the afterlife which resembles a ghost town where the population consists of others who have also ''offed it''. He leads a life with no true goals, passing the time working in Kamikaze Pizza and getting drunk with his newfound friend Eugene. When he hears that his ex-girlfriend Mikal has also offed herself, which means she has to be somewhere in the same afterworld, Zia sets out to find her. Goran Dukic´s first feature film has already started raking in awards. Even though the movie was filmed outside of LA, Dukic turns every scene into a convincing afterlife setting that feels like nothing else on earth. Cafés and cars alike are all broken or busted in some way or another. Wrapping that together with a witty dialogue and an unusual story has resulted in one of best love stories to come along this year.PATRICK CROTTY
