Wisconsin Death Trip is based on black and white photos found in a forgotten archive, dating from the 1890s, and shows the life in Black River Falls in northern Wisconsin. The film also uses raw materials from the town's newspaper, stories about the members of the community struggling against disease, the elements and each other. In spite of this the film is filled with a sense of humour, irony and tile absurd. The film is based on a book by Michael Lesy, with tile same photos.
