Logan is a 13-year old kid on his way to manhood. Times are hard and they sure ain’t getting easier with Logan’s sexual awakening as he falls in love with Rodeo, the “it” guy in school. Logan creates a feminine character to get closer to him. With this impressive coming of age story, director Cam Archer takes a leap into the big league. Wild Tigers I Have Known is the work of a confident mind, even though it is Archers directorial feature debut. He proves to be bursting with ideas, but at the same time his direction is almost soothing and calm, constantly saving our hero from falling too deep. The film, though unconventionally told and not afraid of the arty takes, still creates a straightforward, immediate appeal. This portrait of fragile love is wrapped in beautiful photography and music from Yo la Tengo. When in Archer’s audience, you will recall the first years of adulthood and the first feeling of love as you are reminded passion can’t be controlled. It must be free. MARTIN FROSTBERG
