Whiz Kids, The

The word ''playlul'' reaches another level in this stunning short in which two 16-year old guys seem obsessed with each other. They're either squabbling in the classroom, wrestling after school or carressing in the bath tub. The overall homo-erotic mood, emphasized by the music of Radiohead and Nick Drake, reaches a crescendo in a highly sadomasochistic final scene. The Whiz Kids is a remarkable, contemplative short about exploring and experimenting with sexuality. It won the Silver Lion for Best Short Film at the Venice Film Festival in 2001. JON ASP
