A black comedy about vanity and lust in contemporary America. In the middle of the sexual jungle of New York's singles' world, two men and two women try to achieve their dreams.
Nicholas Barker has his own unique method for story telling: he directs his own version of the lives of the actors. ''”Unmade Beds” is a study in untruthfulness,'' he says about his film. He likes to make up things about his characters and includes their own self-deceptions, just as long as it makes the story interesting. About 90% of the content is based on the four lead actors' own characters and language.
We meet the following actors in ”Unmade Beds:” Brenda Monte's economic situation is abysmal. She has decided to use her razor sharp intelligence and her deep cleavage to get hold of a man who can pay her bills. Michael lives alone, and is virtually without friends. He has spent the last 15 years searching for a woman via the personals. Out of sheer desperation he contacts a dating service.
Aimee can't understand that at 28 she is still unmarried. Together with her best friend Laurie she thinks out the best way in which to catch a man. If she doesn't manage to find a real man she plans to get her former boyfriend, who is now homosexual, to donate sperm. The only problem is that she has forgotten to tell him.
Mickey has dedicated most of his life to beautiful women. At 54 years of age he begins to lose his touch, but he refuses to give up. With the help of computer dating over the internet, generous tips to bartenders around Soho, and exaggerated tales of his success as a scriptwriter, he sets out on his nightly search for the woman of his dreams.
