Unchain follows four young boxers during a period of five years. At the centre of attention is Unchain Kaji, a failed boxer with an even more failed life beyond his career. One day he loses it and revolts in his own way against unemployment and broken dreams. Just like in a real documentary, interviews, ringside images and everyday images are mixed. The title alludes to the fact that Kaji took the name Unchain after Ray Charles' Unchain My Heart, a name and a song which describes Kaji's life well. The film loosens up the divide between before and after the boxing, and the four boxers lives after the career tend to follow the same path as their boxing career. Kaji boxed seven matches as a professional with one draw and six losses.
