Trolösa

Ingmar Bergman's unusually autobiographical script revolves around a quartet destined to break and burn by an unmanageable passion. The audience sees the drama begin by unfolding like an unwritten sheet of paper or an undeveloped film reel. The ageing Bergman is visited by his main female character, who like an unwilling muse captures his story about a past drama of infidelity and forces the creator to confront his own treachery in the past.To the plot Ullmann has added a thin-skinned presence of the acting and the pictures which give pain a physical reality. In the less and less innocent ''play before death'' of the main charcters there is a seldom-perceived presence, all which make Faithless (Trolösa) the richest drama of the Swedish film year.
