Betrayal

George Vlaicu is an anti-communist who is sentenced to prison in 1948, after writing an article about the death of democracyin his native Romania. After 11 years in a damp cell, a policeman offers George his freedom. All he has to do is sign a pape, and George gives in to the temptation. When he is free again he marries, has children and is considered a national poet -life is sweet. Only when his friend is murdered, after having told of his plan to defect, does George realize that he has been deceived. He starts making plans for his own escape.
