Tiresia is standing along the other transsexual prostitutes
in a forest area right outside of Paris, lined up while the johns' cars glide past in the night. Among them is the priest Francois, who fi'st pays for Tiresia's services, then takes her home and locks her up in a dark room in the cellar. Tiresia is held kidnapped and humiliated until Fran~ois has had enough of her. He then ties her up, sits upon her and sticks her in the eyes with a pair of scissors. Blood gushes from the wound.
In possibly one ofthe most horrifying scenes that has ever been done, Tiresia's suffering screams seem to go on forever. It physically hurts to see and hear her suffer. When
the screaming finally fades, Fran~ois drives her out into the countryside and dumps her, unconscious and bloody, into
a ditch. She is found and helped back to life by a young girl, Anna. At the same time, Francois is still nearby his church not farfrom Anna's house.
With Tiresia, Bertrand Bonello has taken some further steps in his development as a director after last year's contribution to the festival. This dark and horrid plunge into pure evil definitely places him in the front row of young French filmmaking.
