Tigrero - A Film That Was Never Made, really is a documentary about a film that was never made, Sam Fuller's Tigrero. This was meant to be an action flick with mega stars such as John Wayne, Gregory Peck and Ava Gardner in the cast, but the project was cancelled due to high insurance costs. The jungle was simply to dangerous a place for these expensive actors.
This was in 1955. Now, almost to the day forty years later, Sam Fuller returns to the deep Amazonian rain forest. Only this time he is in front of the camera. In conversation with his colleague Jim Jarmuch, this is a film that could almost be described as a documentary roadmovie. In time as well as space. A film which turns into a portrayal of Sam Fuller as a representative for, what may be called, the last golden era of the cinema movie (the 1950s) and what may be the Karajá indians last desperate fight for the right of survival.
