The Science of Sleep

Stéphane is enticed into going back to his childhood's France by an exciting and creative job. However, he finds himself surrounded by pen pushers and his work tasks are no more fun than sleeping pills. Stéphane sinks further and further into a marvellous dream universe, a hybrid of Chech animation from the 70’s and the surreal set designs of Jean Cocteau. Real excitement arises when the charming Stéphanie moves in next door. Stéphane’s defective French skills prevent him from expressing his feelings to Stéphanie, but provide endless amusement for all. To get closer to his love interest, Stéphane must push his creativity beyond the limits of the real world. Gondry’s third feature film is the first based on his own script and sends a warmer vibe. Perhaps this time the story is more personal or maybe it is the heavenly match of Gael Garcia Bernal and Charlotte Gainsbourg?
