In his last film, Skin Flick, Canadian director Bruce LaBruce showed us homoerotic adventures among right-wing extremists in London. Now it's time for him to depict homosexual liasons in the extreme left. In The Raspberry Reich, the man lmown for making porn with a message, tells the story of a group of left wing terrorists in Berlin. With a mishmash of leftist thoughts and a high portion of double standards, this group of gun-crazed young men, shoplifts, shoots and kidnaps in order to achieve their revolutionary goal. Since their charismatic leader Gudrun is convinced that
heterosexual monogamy is a bourgeois construct, obstructing the way to a revolution, the gang is also forced to engage in homosexual practices. Something that no one, not even Gudrun's own boyfriend, seems too reluctant to do.
The interest for this film has been enormous. Since its opening in Berlin earlier this year, the film has, or will, tour at nearly every film festival there is, perhaps proving that smart porn is a rare but welcome concept these days.
