Minus Man, The

Vann Siegart is travelling through America when he arrives in a small town in the north-west. He rents a room from Doug and Jane. Doug helps Vann to get a job at the post office. Ferrin works there, who soon starts to show romantic feelings towards Vann. It doesn't take long before it is obvious that more than one person in the surroundings is fighting against their inner demons to keep up appearances. In his debut film Fancher depicts with many nuances the unpredictability of fate and the intricacies of life. He manages to avoid falling into the traps of caricature and creates an exciting psychological portrait of Vann. Fancher shows that he is as mature a director as he is a writer.
