The Man Who Wasn’t There

The Man Who Wasn’t There

av Joel Coen

The Coen brothers explore once again the thematics of the film noir, with references to classics such as Double Indemnity. In a small Californian town during the summer of 1949, the barber Ed gets a proposal from one of his customers to join him in a silent partnership to finance a store. To be in on the deal, he only has to cash up 10 000 dollars.

With their particular brand of character based humour and the capacity of
pin pointing the typical rhythm and grace of the noir genre, the Coens once again succeed in creating their very own cinematic world. And Billy Bob Thornton is another classic Coen hero in the same sense M Emmet Walsh or William H Macy once was.
