A tragic drama about two men in the American south, macho Elvis Presley's hometown of Memphis, Tennessee. Lincoln is 17 and is going out with Monica, but he begins to doubt his heterosexuality. A strange relationship develops between him and a Vietnamese man, Minh, who falls in love with Lincoln.
The Delta took three years to make, out of which the last half year was spent trying to get hold of actors. The director travelled around his home territory in search of talent. He searched using a flashlight through clubs and at parties for talent. Finally he found the actors he was looking for in a billiard hall. They were completely unprofessional, and Ira Sachs had some-thing he could really sink his into. He claims he was influenced by both Cassa-vetes and Mike Leigh in the way he worked with the actors.
The story is a sad one about social in-justice. Memphis is a drearyplace if you're homosexual and from Vietnam besides. The director knows what he's talking about. Having grown up around there, he experienced first hand the misfortune of being a homosexual in such a prejudiced society. The story itself, however, is not autobiographical. It is completely fictional, he claims.
