This film is set in a mad, utterly synthetic world, a twilight country of rock, heading for the Apocalypse. A black comedy about a community on the brink of complete selfdestructiveness, where “deadly space junk” fall from the sky and no-one does anything but watch TV. The villain of the piece compères a television talk show and advocates Positive Mind Management as the solution to every imaginable problem. The hero is the newsboy Alex, who becomes the scapegoat in a political intrigue.
Comment:
“The worst is yet to come…” This graffiti legend, sprayed on a wall in the opening scene, accurately presages what is to follow. Terminal City, a fantasy neighbour of Gotham, is a town where everything has gone off the rails. Director Zale Dalen, inspired by the decay of his home city of Vancouver, has produced a classical American B-mocie on a shoestring - “lowbudget punk” was one American ciritic's term for the genre. In addition to Jello Biafra and D.O.A, the widely noticed soundtrack also includes Evan Johns & The H-Bombs and The Groovaholics among others.
