Terminal Bar

Terminal Bar

av Stefan Nadelman

Terminal Bar is a photo-driven documentary about a bar in Manhattan.
It is not solely portrayed via the camera lens, but through
the eyes of the customers as well. Throughout the years Terminal
Bar has been transformed from a traditional Irish working-class
joint to a trendy spot for homosexuals. Visitors and others are
shown through photos taken between 1972 and 1982 by the
director’s father, Sheldon Nadelman. The antiquated interior, dirty
grey façade, and the adjoining sidewalk with a stench of piss lend
the bar an air of a combat arena, but the warmth and the sense of
humor are in evidence. The fates behind the photographs provide
a glimpse into the lives of many people and also into an aspect of
New York’s homosexual culture in the 1970’s. Terminal Bar won
the Sundance Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival in 2003.
