New York as Hell, seen through the eyes of a violent, paranoid man. Martin Scorsese's physical sense for Manhattan is more intensive here than in his other films. Taxi driver Travis Bickle (Robert De Niro) drives around in an inferno of decay, corruption, malice and frustration. Through a series of feverish images Taxi Driver creates an intensive portrait of the city as a world without mercy. As is many other of Martin Scorsese's films, Robert de Niro is the incarnation of the New Yorker: street-smart, disillusioned and suspicious.
