Taxi

Taxi

av Gérard Pirès

Daniel is pizza delivery-boy who has just gotten his desired taxi drivers license. He starts his new career in full gear in
his specially designed super-taxi. One day he ends up in the grip of Emilien, a failed but over-ambitious cop, who does not even have a drivers license. In order to keep his license Daniel is forced to help Emilien to catch a German gang of bank robbers.
Luc Besson wrote and directed Taxifor Gerard Pires, who is one of the few who encouraged him at the beginning of his career. Unfortunately the director got hurt one week before shooting started and was forced to spend three weeks in hospital. Luc Besson then hired director Gerard Krawczyk, who has made Heroines, to help while Pires was bedridden. After a while there were plenty of directors on the set since Mathieu Kossovitz (While we fall) and Jan Kounen (Oobermann) also came to the rescue.
Marseilles is a European San Francisco.
The city which is by the sea, is crossed by three highways and has narrow, steep streets, ideal for a film with many carchase scenes. Gerard Pires has been a race car driver himself and the car chases where filmed with real professionals behind
the wheels, driving in 200 km/h without any trick-photography such as manipulation of fiIm speed.
The actors are young, unknown and full of energy. Among those making their debut on screen is Swedish super-model Emma Sjoberg, who plays a dead serious but seductive police chief with German origin. The score is made by rap-group lAM.
