Stockholm Film Festival

In a motel room in Michigan, two high school friends reunite as one of them is screening his new movie at a nearby festival. Vince, the slacker dope dealer, confronts John, the tidy film director, with memories of Amy, his long lost love. What happened that last night when John was with her?

Stephen Belber's character driven screenplay, based on his theatrical play, enclosed in the small room, is perfect for Linklater's experimental tendencies. Tape is basically an exploration in the arts of digital video filming, also tested in Waking Life. The use of shifting camera angles and fast editing demonstrates what the real difference is between staged and cinematic storytelling.
