Steve is a not so bright small time crook and drug dealer recently released from prison. Sky is a somewhat nalve, banana-split loving prostitute. These two twisted souls keep bumping into each other around the seedier parts of Ghent, Belgium. At one point, when they still don't know each other, Steve steals some money from Sky's purse when she is having an epileptic seizure in a shabby bowling alley. When they finally meet it's through a mutual acquaintance. The relationship they strike up is all but smooth and predictable as they both are still struggling to find their place in life.
The juxtaposition between the bleached reality of every day life and the bright neon lights of the night reflects the ups and downs in this young couple's stormy love affair. The story is set to present-day Belgium, but the clothes, haircuts and really cool moustaches are all very 70' s. All the actors do a solid job; most memorable is perhaps Titus De Voogdt (Steve) who also had a role in Tom Barman's Any Way the Wind Blows which was screened last year in Stockholmn XIV Competition. A well-composed soundtrack adds to the fast beating pulse of this promising feature-length debut from director Van Groeningen.
