Yukio is a philanthropic and respected doctor who lives together with his wife and his parents. All seems well, but something is not quite right. Yukio cannot point out what it is, but he feels watched. A past that he is neither conscious of nor can be held accountable for becomes a dark power that hunts him down. It's a struggle between good and evil where the good not always seems as pure as it should be. Every family has its skeletons and past episodes that they prefer to hide but things never keep down. A putrid stench overcomes the otherwise spotless residence and a nightmare scenario is built based on revenge and malevolence. This story breathes the terrifying spirit of Edgar Allan Poe. It takes place in a typical Japanese house at the beginning of the twentieth century. Hair styles, costumes and make-ups are of a surreal subtlety. Shinya Tsukamoto is one of the most respected Japanese independent directors and has attained cult status. His film is based on the novel The Twins written by the Japanese horror writer Edogawa Rampo (whose name is a tribute to Edgar Allan Poe). Masahiro Motoki, one of the most renowned Japanese actors, plays the part as Yukio.
