Imagine having your arms and legs crushed by a carriage wheel, then being cut up and having your body parts pierced on a pole for the whole town to see. Not quite the most dignified way of ending a life. Well, that was only one of the methods that the Swedish superiors used to dispatch of the brave souls who dared to defy the king during the 17th century. Made for the Swedish public service broadcaster SVT, TV-series Snapphanar takes place in 1678. At this time Sweden and Denmark were battling over the land that used to separate them, Skåne. A small group of Swedes, called Snapphanar, joined forces with the Danes in hope for a better future. The story revolves around one of them, the youngster Nils Geting, as he joins the resistance, learning how to wield a sword and fight for freedom. Critically acclaimed directors Måns Mårlind and Björn Stein give us a captivating historical adventure about heroism, vengeance and forbidden love in a country that hasn’t always been so peaceful.
