Sounds of Sand

Sounds of Sand

av Marion Hänsel

The well has run dry in a small South African village. The cattle are dying from the lack of water and the dry season seems never-ending. Despite the threat of war and the scorching sun, the inhabitants decide to flee. Most of them head south, trusting their instinct, but Rahne, the only literate in the village, decides to head east. Together with his wife Mouna and their three children, they embark on an epic and dangerous journey under the burning sun. With a few sheep, some goats and the dromedary camel Chamelle as their only riches, they travel through hostile lands, frequently crossing paths with death. Sounds of Sand is shot in Djibouti, a country in the horn of Africa, by director, producer and cinematographer Marion Hänsel. Her adaptation of the acclaimed novel She Camel by Marc Durin-Valois is a film about hope, desperation and determination to survive. NORA STRANDBERG
