Sergio Leone: Once Upon A Time

Sergio Leone: Once Upon A Time

av Howard Hill

Through experpts and interviews, the portrait of one of the most singular directors in the world of film is depicted. Sergio Leone started his career as assistant in Rome's legendary film centre Cinecitta, At the beginning of the 1960's he radically changed the Western with his A fistful of Dollars. He based it on Kurosawa's Yojimbo and gave a new meaning to the belittled term Spaghetti Western. It is ironic that an Italian production, shot in Spain, has given the Western a seldom seen realism and that it also started the great career of the imported Clint Eastwood. It is also remarkable that America-possessed Leone never learnt a word of English. All this gives a picture of a complex man with extreme professional skill - which appears in this reverent biography where both family and colleagues are interviewed.
