The titular isle is a place for recreational fishermen to get away from their problems. Here we find Hee-Jin, who sells supplies, food, drink and sometimes her body. One day the suicidal ex-cop Hyun-Shik arrives, Mee-Jin stops him from committing suicide at the same time as she involves him in an increasingly violent relationship. The film was no success in its home market, but has garnered a lot of attention internationally and it is spectacular. The images of the lake and the floating fishermen's cottages are the epitome of the Koregn film scene's obsession over the last few years with moody and important settings. Korean film is healthier than it has been in a long time, and a great deal of visually interesting stories have made South Korea into one of the most interesting film nations.
