During the battles between Northern Alliance and Taliban forces in November 2001, Swedish journalist Carl Larsson documented the aid worker Andreas Stefansson and his interpreter and colleague Amir Safawi. Their work for the Swedish Afghanistan-committee focused on helping the Afghan people to rebuild the social infrastructure of the country. Although the documentary feels a bit short and may be part of a larger project, it delivers an in-depth look reaching further than CNN and other broadcast news. It focuses not on the big wartime events, but on the difficult, far too uncredited assistance of aid workers and everyday life in the villages. Children playing football in the schoolyard and holding up airdropped food-parcels that they use for carrying their books to school. The film also reflects the role of the outsiders, aid workers as well as journalists, within a war zone - the apparent feeling of the risks involved as the news tell about the death of Swedish photographer Ulf Stromberg. Through the hardships and miseries, the words of an Afghan soldier linger on; ''Blood shouldn't be washed away with more blood.'' JOHAN LINDQVIST
