Highway Crossing, The

Highway Crossing, The

av Arko Okk

Laura and Robert hitch-hike and get picked-up by a man that soon realises that he has forgotten something and must turn back. He leaves them at the roadside. They follow a desolated gravel road at the end of which they find Oswald's house. Oswald has received 4 million dollars from a goldfish and with that money he is going to find the most beautiful woman in the world. The Highway Crossing is a linear tale about the conditions of love. Laura, Robert and Oswald have each to settle with their desires. Robert, bound by the possibility that he could be abandoned, Laura, bound by her dreams and Oswald, bound by his conscience. They are faced with events that destroy everything they earlier believed in. To have, to covet or to give, what will it be? The destiny of the three is interlaced - and each small individual action is only a puzzle piece of a bigger logic that puts their notions about happiness and human life to the test. What was unreachable just a while ago is suddenly available and that which was earlier obvious is now lost. Sometimes the worst thing that could happen is that a wish came true. With powerful imagery and rough music, the film creates its own world where the action gets plenty of space and the mood has features of fairy tales such as Puss in Boots or Hansel and Gretel.
