Highly acclaimed George Gittoes returns with a follow-up to his Iraq war-and-music documentary, Soundtrack To War. Being a war photographer since Vietnam, Gittoes still calls Rampage his hardest film to make so far. Shot in the years of 2004 and 2005, it follows four brothers living in Miami’s “Brown Sub”; a place allegedly more dangerous than Baghdad. More than just a documentary about Miami’s hip-hop scene, Rampage turns into a heartfelt and haunting portrait about life and death. As one of the brothers is shot in a gang war, Gittoes tries everything to make the younger and promising rapper Denzel an escape through the music business. Here, Denzel is being confronted and disillusioned by a world where nervous records executives have complaints about his lyrics not being “age-appropriate”. Critics have called Rampage one of the most moving films of the year.LUKAS ECKESKOG
