Puteri Gunung Ledang

Puteri Gunung Ledang

av Saw Teong Hin

Two of Malaysia's most famous legends are intertwined with a solid base in historic facts in this epic. The story revolves around the love between a Javanese Hindu Princess and a Muslim Malay Warrior and its consequences. The film has taken over two years to complete, mostly due to the immense research work behind the production. Tiara Jacquelina, in the lead as Princess Gusti Putri, studied meditation, dancing, singing, horse back riding, Sanskrit and royal etiquette intensively before taking on the role.
The film has all the ingredients of an Asian epic - rivalry between regions and Empires, forbidden liaisons, secret alliances, war, a
Shakespearian style love story - as well as a fair share of martial art. Rahim Razali, who plays the Sultan's Prime Minister Bendahara, is one of Malaysia's top sport commentators and ''Romeo'' himself, M. Nasir, is a famous rock singer when he's not producing music or directing films.
Puteri Gunang Ledang is the most expensive film ever produced in Malaysia, and also the first one containing action scenes. Expect nothing less than a beautiful adventure full of poetry, internal conflicts and men getting their asses kicked.
