Purely Belter

Purely Belter

av Mark Herman

In a tough working class district of Newcastle, buddies Gerry and Sewell are tired of the everyday rhythms of social despair. Gerry gets the idea that they should start saving up for season tickets for Newcastle United's home games. They cost £500 each. With the strength of their convictions, they do everything in their power to succeed, be it legal or not. With Purely Belter, Mark Herman returns to the lower classes of urban Britain. The frustrations that were evident in Brassed Off have been replaced by listlessness, which is contrasted by the stubborn search for money by the two young men. Herman never compromises the gravity of social problems for laughter; despite this fact it is not misleading to classify this film as a comedy. The film is also saturated by the hope, that never fails these friends in their struggle against the decay they see everyday, and their struggle towards their goal, the coveted season tickets.
