Carolyn is the preppiest member of a sorority house. The Alfa Omega Pi girls decide that now or never, they are going to win the title sorority of the year. They sign up for the charity assignment from hell - they are going to coach handicapped and retarded athletes. There is no such thing as love at first sight when Carolyn and Pumpkin meet, at least not from Carolyn's point of view. Pumpkin is a ''challenged athlete''. Still, she has difficulties to get him out of her mind. There is something special about his way of looking at life, and his soul is the purest Carolyn has ever been confronted with. But there is no way a home-coming queen would dump her incredibly good-looking tennis champ boyfriend for a retarded guy who can hardly walk. Or is there? When Carolyn decides to listen to her heart, she realises that it's playing a tune that she hasn't heard before. Do we always search, and hopefully find, love among people similar to ourselves? People with the same social status, the same background? Set in the traditional world of a university, Anthony Abrams and Adam Larson Broder asks the question whether it's ok to look elsewhere for love. Pumpkin is a special comedy about the taboos of love for the romantically challenged. Lisa Taube
