Take a couple of indolent surfing films, some psychedelic thrillers, a bunch of pastel-happy comedies and mix them in Malibu Beach in the early 60's and you'll have the film Psycho Beach Party. It is summer and necking couples are sitting in their cars at the drive-in movie (showing The Pizza Waitress with Three Heads) when a young girl is found with her throat cut. Police Commissioner Monica Stark, played by the author of the film, Charles Busch, suspects one of the surfing set. Their leader The Great Kanaka has just taken up the young, pretty but totally unsophisticated Florence ''Chicklet'' Forest into the surfing set. It is not because he cares very much about her but is instead drawn to her alter ego, the sado-masochistic Ann Boman. Psycho Beach Party is a hilarious comedy in beautiful warm colours, with great clothes, swinging beach music and a Swedish exchange student. Pay attention when he refers to what his grandmother Ingrid used to say ..
