With VenIa's biological clock ticking away like crazy, her boyfriend Antero is running out of excuses not to have a baby. Since he really does not want one, and she really would not understand why, Antero secretly takes steps to prevent a pregnancy. Tempted by her lesbian colleague Satu, a childless nurse who makes babies for a living, VenIa considers Some drastic measures of her own.
Aleksi Salmenpera has made his first feature a treasure of a movie, a dark but surprisingly funny story of love put to the test. He is inspired by the way Danish Dogme directors work with actors, and does indeed get
incredible performances out of his cast. The superficially happy VenIa and Antero speak only of casual things, yet every line is laden with secrets, wishes and manipulation.
Screenwriter Pekko Pesonen has constructed their opposite personalities not around malefemale stereotypes but on their very different responses to crises. Realising that the production of babies is intimately connected with getting a grown-up partner, Venla and Antero both have to accept the liInitations of common sense. Producing Adults is this year's Finnish Oscar contender.
