Wayfarers

Wayfarers

av Igor Strembitsky

With a documentary approach and stylistic black and white photography, Wayfarers is a poetic depiction of a dreary mental institution somewhere in Ukraine. Accompanied by a traditional lullaby, apathetic patients pass by in surroundings that remind us of long and happily forgotten medical care. Here, “childhood never returns and dreams don't come true”, to quote the synopsis. It took director Igor Strembitskyy three years to finish Wayfarers, the first Ukrainian film ever to participate in the Cannes Film Festival, where it received the prize for best short film.
