A yakuza who wants to leave crime behind but is forced to steal money from his boss. An unexpected visit from his former girlfriend and her new boyfriend. PartY 7 is no ordinary yakuza film, It is a chamber drama, taking place in the shoddy New Mexico Hotel, somewhere in japan, and it is an intricate, play with relationships, looks and voyeurism (and a polar bear). With claustrophobic rooms, intense sound work and the constant feeling that someone is watching, Ishii creates a thrilling comedy and has mapped the way for young Japanese film, for an audience brought up on tv and not traditional Japanese film.
