”Pale Saints” takes place in present time, but is projected through an artistic mirror of the 60 ies that bring the thoughts to the first ”Bond”-films, Jacques tati, ”Blow Up” and TV-series like ”The Avengers” and ”The Persuaders.” The contents are clearly adjusted for the 90 ies with a story far away from the partying and comic strip-fighting of Tony Curtis and Roger Moore.
”Pale Saints” take place in a raw and brutal world, but it is never a gluttony in violence. And Lois - played by Sean Patrick Flanery from ”Powder” - is an antihero thata fails with almost everything he does. Furthermore, Louis is sufferig from a bad consciense since he is the direct reason that Dody is partially paralized after a gun-injurie from a failed robbery. It is a key scen in the story, and keeps reoccuring, sometimes in new versions. Good performances by Maury Chaykin and Saul Rubinek who earlier only have played small parts in bigger productions
This is the opening film in Joel Wyners triology on the theme on destiny and the fate. He has already written the Screenplay: for the remaining films, ”The Mexican” is currently being recorded. After that ”Blue Collar” follows.
