Three beautiful young women from an upper class family - Zon, Malene and Gritte - are living happily in North Africa, oblivious to the Algerian war. They seem unaffected by most things until, suddenly, their existence is disrupted by love, desperation and the end of an epoch. The sisters are three very different personalities, and the film, like a triptych, follows each of their several destinies.
Comment:
Even if militant movies about the Algerian war have already been made, which has not been my ambition, there is a certain tabu surrounding the subject. It's hard for an audience to see movies about this period. Films have been made for a long time about collaborators (or more precisely, the resistance) during World War II. American movies about the Vietnam War are also often a topic of discussion. Someone has accurately pointed out, however, that the camera is still placed in the helicopter. It would be a completely different story if the camera was placed on Vietnamese ground to look at the helicopter. I feel that the camera is not in the helicopter in my film, but on the ground.
