Okay

Okay

av Jesper W. Nielsen

35-year-old, ever effective Nete (Paprika Steen), is working hard to keep her family and career under control as her father (Ole Ernst) is diagnosed with a lethal disease. After she finds out that he has only three more weeks to live, Nete asks her bitter father to move in with her, so that he can await death together with his family rather than alone. You can't argue with a dying man, but his presence nevertheless adds an extra strain to the already slightly dysfunctional family in a too-small apartment. Nete's life is falling to pieces as her wannabe writer husband is unfaithful and her teenage daughter goes into a phase of pu berty rebell ion. And as it seems, after three weeks her father gets better again ... How long will there be room for the dying man without completely dissolving Nete's own life? High-class acting and a new take on the subject of responsibility towards parents make Okay an intriguing family case. It's particularly gratifying to see Paprika Steen (The Idiots, 1998, The Celebration, 1998), in a starring role. In Jesper W. Nielsen's black kitchen sink comedy, death is lurking around the corner, but doesn't seem quite ready to step forward. ÅSA GUSTAFSSON
