Ode to Joy

Ode to Joy

av Anna Kazejak-Dawid, Jan Komasa, Maciej Migas

Aga returns to her hometown Silesia in Poland after a years work in London. Piotr is a struggling hip-hopper in Warsawa trying to keep the relationship with his girlfriend alive although her wealthy father wants to keep them apart. Wiktor has moved back to his parents’ house in Pomerania, trying to stay afloat by gutting fish. They all have one question in common: Why don’t they leave Poland for something better? Three talented young directors have made a film in three parts, representing different stories on the current situation in Poland after the fall of communism. What are the possibilities for the youth, and how does the country treat young people with ambitions? With social-realistic sensibility, equivalent to high-quality American independents, the truth behind the ”new” Poland is revealed. In a thought evoking and absorbing way they highlight the young Polish generation, that was raised in the solidarity movement. NATALIE MAJERSKI
