Tony refuses to accept a future as a miner. Instead he raises the stakes and smuggles drugs over the Canadian border. When the grandfather dies of a lung disease after 30 years in the mines, the grandmother Rosa (Viveca Lindfors) is left destitute. Her only hope is to get money from the state but Tony tries to cheat her out of it. Together they go on a trip. They visit relatives and eloquent bureaucrats, all of this to find the documents that Rosa needs to get her money.
Comment:
North of Pittsburgh ... Shot in Vancouver ..
I loved the city ... The water ... The snow covered mountains ... Even the rain ... For sure, Starbuck's coffee bars ... In every corner, it seems ... They are all over the west coast... The answer to European cafes ..
I do feel at home in Canada .... It's a blend of America and Sweden ..
Richard Martin, the director and Kim Steer, the producer saw me in a film, made by another first film director, Louis Jansen, in
Vancouver at the festival. (A lot of busi-
ness goes on at festivals) They offered
me the part... I said yes and soon I was in Vancouver ... Rosa ... Terrific lady ... Tough, warm and funny ... I do want to play funny parts ... I am a clown ... Nobody thinks of me that way ... But I am and always was ..
I dream about going to clown school ..
Sarasota or Paris ... Who knows ... If there is time .. For Rosa I had to freshen up my Italian ... It brought back memories ... When I made two films in Italy ... Where are they??. ''0 solo mio'', as Rosa would say ...
Young Canadian production, competent, well organized - very important.. We shot on location, drove around a lot... You will
see when you see the film Jeff is a super
actor and a clever writer Richard Martin
is a fine director. .. We argued a lot but so what... It was all about living up to ones standards ... We are friends now the film is done ... I am nominated - best actress - for the Canadian Oscar, The Genie Jeff Schultz is nominated for best screen play, Kim Steer, the producer got a baby - the father is Richard ... What more can you wish for?
We are all meeting in Toronto ... It's time to celebrate whether we win or not. .. If you want to buy the film call me immediately ..
I told you business is going on at festivals ..
