A few schoolboys join in the Liberty war in 1918, The enemy is the Soviet Union and the goal is to bring back independence to Estonia. They all have different mo-
tives to participate but keep together to the best of their abilities until Estonia 14 months later is declared liberated, As soldiers of the 2nd platoon, they follow each other in encounters on frozen fields, escape through forests and to victory celebrations in castles,
Names in Marble is about comradery and faith in the future, momentarily with a touch of boy adventure books, even if it this would be a dark one, An American picture film poster slogan could have been ''boys become men'', but this
is an Estonian film and the director NUmanen fortunately does not make it so easy for himself,
All the boys in class will not graduate, ''Some day we'll have to defend our country again and again'', says one of the young soldiers as a premonition on what is to come in the future of Estonia, and a reminder that freedom is not something that should be taken for granted,
Names in Marble is a smash hit in its native country and was nominated for the Golden Dolphin at this year's Troia International Film Festival.
