Night Unto Night
A melodrama about art and science in which two odd people meet. He is a dying scientist with epilepsy and she a mentally disturbed widow who thinks her dead husband is haunting her. On a stormy night
they finally meet their common fate. In the leading roles we see Viveca Lindfors and Ronald Reagan.

My first American Film ... Don Siegel directing ... Ronald Reagan co-starring ... My agent told me not to do the film ... Reagan's name wasn't big enough ... and Don was a young upcoming director, not yet established ...
I laugh today ... But those were Hollywood politics, to team you up with big American names ... Well, Reagan's became very big, as did Siegel's ... We didn't know it then of course ... nor did I care ...
I had been hanging around Hollywood, doing P.R. learning English, taking dance classes, et cetera for months ... I was dying to go to work ... I needed to work ... and I was never good at politics (is anyone?). When I met Don I wanted it even more ...
I couldn't have cared less that he was not an established director ... that made it even more interesting, and then of course, we fell
in love ... {Oh, Viveca ... Viveca ... again .

were in the same profession ... We were go· ing to make films together ... and he treated
me like an equal..
The film dragged on and I barely made it home for Christmas ... My last as a Swede ..
I packed up that winter ... Took my children, left my lawyer husband and moved to USA, ecstacies and agonies galore. ''Do I regret it?'' I am often asked ... Wrong question, I answer ... I did it, and here I am ... A result of a woman - actress belonging to two continents ... A Swede and an American .. With all the pluses and minuses that follow ..
The film Night Unto Night, Warner thought, was not good enough to introduce me to the American people ... They where wrong - I think - I liked it, it surely was a story ahead of its time ... Another remake? ... The next film I made wasn't very good ... I was becoming aware of- still unconsciously that maybe they don't know as much here in Hollywood that I thought they did back home in Sweden ... When Don and I went to see Bergman's The Seventh Seal one night, in a small outhouse off the beaten tracks in Santa Monica ... I knew ... when the lights went up I could not move ... The awareness was devastating ... I began to write to Bergman ... I never got an answer ... He made his own stars ... New stars in Swedish films ..
I had been replaced ...
