Young Cuban postal worker Carla Perez manipulates human emotions and intertwines fates by alternating the content in the letters she comes across. The successful outcome of her ability to stir up contained emotions makes her realize the limitations of her surroundings and the inabilities of her mailing co-workers. Longings of the USA are close at hand when she wins the annual immigration lottery. Playful cartoon-like aesthetics crayon-sketches the celluloid in a Rumble Fish-fashion, in this Cuban Amelie-esque romantic spoof. Shot in extraordinary black-and-white in the city of Havana, it is as pleasing to the eye as Latin American drama in it's finest hour. Nada + had its premiere screening at the Director's Fortnight in Cannes. PATRICK ANDERSSON
