At the time of It's My Life (Vivre sa vie), Jean-Luc Godard and actress Anna Karina were married, but as Godard himself has noted, this was the first stage towards the dissolution of their marriage (as described in Pierrot le Fou).
Consisting of twelwe Brechtian tableaux, the film chronicles the life and death of a prostitute, brilliantly characterised by Anna Karina. It starts out almost like a documentary, but the highly stylised prostitution scenes serve as devices which direct the audience towards the subject of true interest, the passionate realtionship between enigmatic Anna Karina and Godard.
A penetrating portrait of the life of a prostitute as well as a comment upon the debate of male/female, and the relationship itself.
