In the night of a heat wave at Manhattan, a deadly infection breaks out. The rat-borne virus transforms it’s afflicted into bloodthirsty rat creatures. The film’s story revolves around seven recently evicted tenants trapped in a downtown building as the virus changes the outside world into a nightmarish vision. Together they must struggle to survive the night and protect their apartments from the killer rats. Ever since Mulberry Street was first announced it has been awaited with much expectation amongst horror movie fans. Shot during nighttime in Lower Manhattan, director Jim Mickle’s debut feature is an original zombie tale that meets the high expectations. Instead of playing safe, relying on the obvious unpleasant core of the film’s story, Mickle charges this urban horror explosion with short but sly character development and dialogue, bringing the actions into a context close to our own reality. Eventually this modern nature's revenge film suddenly seems not too impossible.LUKAS ECKESKOG
